Re-Arranging

"Yeah.  THAT'S the one!"
Before he went to work this morning, I asked my husband
to remove that huge hosta.
I had a plan.
One of our old, garage-sale-purchased chairs now sits comfortably
in the shade of a large bush, trimmed to be a tree.
That being done, I turned my attention to one of our flower beds
looking for places to plant the uprooted hosta which I divided into FIVE!
Till it was all over, I had quite a pile of weeds and foilage
trimmed back from the fading Surprise Lilies...
All-in-all, it was a satisfying way to spend
a few morning hours of  (is it already?)
one of the last days of spring 2013.
It looks a little fuller from THIS angle, doesn't it?
Oh, Marsha....(or anyone else who know).
I meant to ask if I'm cultivating a weed here (below).
Does ANYone know?

Mid-June Walk-About

Things are changing so rapidly in our flower beds!
 Some things go...
 others come.
(Have I asked for help before identifying the plant above?
If I get the name of it, I'll put it in my sidebar so I can remember it!)

Rusty stuff always finds its way into our beds!
Above, an old Christmas tree stand;
below a rake head.
And I guess you notice that I like the variegated varieties of hosta and sedum...
I'm still trying to figure out a place for this mirror.
I think it's destined to wander.
Enjoy YOUR day in YOUR yard and garden.  Time is flying by!

Clematis Time!

Yes!  It's Clematis Time!
And the single Spirea bush we have is showing brilliant colors, too.
Our yard has a way to go before it reaches the beauty of one
we saw on a House and Garden Walk Saturday.
Just look at it!
I wish you could hear the lovely music piped into this charming place.
 It was hard to leave,
but finally we exited on this rose-lined, brick path.
We returned home with ideas and  plans to implement in OUR yard--
like the wood benches below.  I just LOVE them!
Have you been on a Garden Walk this season?

Faux Birds

Inspired by some not-so-faux birds last week, I wrote the following poem - "birds"

little birds
big birds
black birds
brown birds
screeching birds
singing birds
single birds
double birds
sitting birds
flying birds
bids on the ground
birds in the trees
birds flapping
birds gliding
social birds
solitary birds
excited birds
calm birds
timid birds
bold birds
bossy birds
docile birds
busy birds
idle birds

Before the Derecho

Some scenes before
 the forecasted derecho
which really didn't turn out to be anything
more than a thunderstorm.
(Seems there was a slight over-reaction to me...)
It looked very much the same AFTER the derecho, by the way.

There's A Place for Us

After reading Sue's suggestions about what to look for at thrift stores,
I feel MOST confident that I'll find a place for the galvanized chicken feeders
and this old wooden potty chair.
SOMEWHERE!

While I was Away

While I was retreating near New Haven, Kentucky
enjoying the beauty of the mountains and the Abbey of Gethsemani,
our rose bushes back home were going BONKERS!
The clematis, too, are beginning their show!
What a spring it has been for flowers.

Touched by an Avalanche...

...an "avalanche" of rain, that is.
If our rain gauge is accurate, a 4"-5" AVALANCHE!
On my way to our backyard cabin, I couldn't resist photographing some of the
 aftermath of the "avalanche".

A siren went off in our small town -- around midnight, I think.
It was a pretty weak one.  I went downstairs to get more information.
There was a tornado watch posted for a large portion of NE Indiana until 6:00 this morning.
I went back to bed and "slept" quite fitfully.
There were no more sirens.

With more rain in the forecast,
I see frequent lawn-mowing and weed-pulling in our future!
